Credit card benefit trackers compared: what each does and costs

By Calvin. Published .

Tools that track credit card benefits split into two kinds. Some connect to your accounts and mark credits as used for you. Others ask you to pick your cards and log each use yourself. Choose between those first, then compare platforms and price. The table below shows both for seven tools, kardfolio included, and lists the official pages behind each row.

What does each tool do and cost?

Each statement about another tool is taken from that tool’s own site, help center or App Store page. The day each tool’s pages were last read is listed under the table. Prices and plans change, so open the source before you pay for anything.

What each tool’s own pages said on the day listed below. The kardfolio row is this product.

Which question matters most?

These tools differ most in one thing: how the tool learns that you used a credit.

  • It reads your accounts. You connect your card or bank accounts, and the tool marks credits as used when it sees them. This is the least work. It also means giving a third party access to your accounts or transactions.
  • You log each use. You pick your cards and record a use when you make one. Nothing is connected. The list is only as current as you keep it.

Decide that first. After that, look at where the tool runs, whether it covers the things you hold, such as certificates or a partner’s cards, and what it costs.

Which tool fits which need?

You want credits marked as used for you

  • MaxRewards. Automatic. It reads your card accounts and marks benefit use for you. Source Gold, the tier with benefit tracking, starts at $9 a month, billed as $108 a year. Source
  • CardStack. You log credits yourself on the free plan. The paid plan reads your bank transactions through Plaid. Source

You mostly want to know which card to use, and to collect card-linked offers

  • CardPointers. Tracks which card to use, recurring card credits and card-linked offers. You add your cards yourself. Source The paid plan adds card-linked offers to your cards for you. Source Free, limited to one card of each type. Source

Where kardfolio fits, and where it does not.

kardfolio is a tracker you keep by hand, for the credits and awards on cards you already hold. You pick your cards from a catalog, see every credit sorted by the day it ends, and log a use when you make one. Each card’s facts come from the issuer’s published terms, with the source and the day it was last checked shown on the card’s page.

It is not the right tool for everything on this page:

  • It does not connect to your bank or card accounts, so it never marks a credit as used for you.
  • It does not track merchant offers, such as the ones a card issuer lets you add to a card.
  • It does not tell you which card to use for a purchase.
  • It does not track points or miles balances.
  • This page describes kardfolio on the web. The iPhone app on the App Store is an earlier version and differs from it.
  • It has no Android app. It runs in a browser there.
  • The free plan holds 3 cards. More cards need Pro. Pricing lists both plans.

How this comparison is kept.

kardfolio wrote this page and is one of the tools on it, so read it with that in mind. To keep it fair, every statement about another tool comes from that tool’s own pages and links to them, and nothing here repeats a tool’s claims about how much its users save. There are no ratings and no ranking.

The cited pages are read again on a schedule. A statement that no longer matches its page is corrected or removed, and the date at the top of this page changes only when the text does. Found something wrong? Write to support@kardfolio.app.

Try the manual kind without an account.

Pick the cards you have and see their credits by the day they end. Save them only if it is useful.

No bank login. No full card numbers.
